Custom Fields & Custom Values (GHL)
Also called custom fields · custom values · merge fields
In GoHighLevel, custom fields store record-specific data on contacts, opportunities and other records. Custom values are account-level key:value pairs, created once and reused anywhere through merge fields. Changing a custom value updates every place that uses it.
In plain English
Custom fields hold extra details about each contact, like their budget. Custom values are reusable placeholders for things that are the same everywhere, like the business phone number.
Analogy
A custom field is a blank on each customer's file card. A custom value is a rubber stamp you use on every letter.
Why it matters
Custom fields drive personalisation, smart lists and If/Else logic per contact. Custom values make snapshots reusable, because you change a client's details once instead of editing every email and page.
In practice
A snapshot's emails reference a 'booking link' custom value. You set it per client after loading the snapshot, while each lead's 'service interested in' is a custom field filled by the form.
