Dictionary term
HTTP vs HTTPS
Also called HTTP · HTTPS · TLS · SSL
Web/DevBeginner
HTTP is the protocol browsers and servers use to exchange requests and responses; HTTPS is HTTP sent over an encrypted TLS connection, which also proves the server's identity with a certificate.
In plain English
HTTP is how websites send data; HTTPS is the same thing in a locked envelope so nobody in between can read or change it.
Analogy
Like a postcard (HTTP) versus a sealed, tamper-evident letter (HTTPS).
Why it matters
Forms, logins, payments and webhooks must use HTTPS; browsers flag plain HTTP pages and many APIs refuse non-HTTPS webhook URLs.
In practice
When you connect a custom domain to a Vercel or GHL funnel, the platform issues a TLS certificate so the page loads over https://.
