Dictionary term
VPS (Virtual Private Server)
Also called virtual private server
A virtual machine rented from a hosting provider: it shares physical hardware with other customers but gives you your own operating system, resources and full administrative control.
In plain English
Your own private computer in a data centre that you rent by the month and control fully, without buying hardware.
Analogy
Like renting an apartment in a building: your own locked space and keys, but shared walls and plumbing.
Why it matters
A VPS is the usual home for self-hosted tools such as n8n, where you need an always-on server but also become responsible for updates, backups and security.
In practice
You run self-hosted n8n in Docker on a small VPS, behind HTTPS on a subdomain, so GHL webhooks can reach it around the clock.
