Dictionary term
Vibe Coding
Building software by describing what you want to an AI and accepting its code based on whether the result works, with little or no review of the code itself; the term was coined by Andrej Karpathy in February 2025.
In plain English
Making an app by telling an AI what you want in plain language and judging it by whether it works, without reading the code it writes.
Analogy
Like renovating a house by describing the result to a builder and only checking the finished rooms, never the wiring behind the walls.
Why it matters
It is a fast way to prototype a demo or internal tool, but unreviewed code can hide security holes and bugs, so anything touching client data or payments needs review, tests and specs before production.
In practice
Prompting an AI app builder into a working lead-capture page in an afternoon to test an offer, then rebuilding it with reviewed code before connecting the real CRM and payment flow.
