Dictionary term
API Integration
Also called integration
An API integration connects two software systems through one or both of their APIs, so data and actions move between them automatically. It can use a platform's prebuilt connector or a direct HTTP request.
In plain English
An API integration is a connection that lets two apps share data and trigger each other automatically, instead of someone copying information by hand.
Analogy
Like a dedicated phone line between two departments so they can pass requests without walking paperwork across the building.
Why it matters
When no prebuilt connector exists, or it lacks the action you need, a direct API integration (an HTTP request with the right auth and payload) is how you connect the systems anyway.
In practice
An n8n HTTP Request node calls a billing system's REST API to fetch an invoice status, then updates the matching GoHighLevel opportunity.
